It was this premise that created the need to establish an urban observatory. The purpose of the observatory is to present true, clear, measurable indicators of Jeddah urban developmental status. Further, the observatory will constitute the main junction where informati on is not only collected but also integrated. The success of such an intricate database will include obtaining the collective participation of all sectors in the society. In gathering and developing these new urban indicators to the betterment of our future policies based on the collaborative effort s principle, this observatory will rely on many intricate relationships consisting of both governmental and domestic sectors. A novel information database tailored according to the most internationally recognized and approved methods and standards will be implemented and established through the JUO. In all this will be the cornerstone to a greater development for Jeddah, its infrastructure, and to the sustainable urban development.
